Computers are only as good as the programs and data stored in them.  And it never hurts to have a data backup program and a data recovery scheme in case of a hard disk crash.  Or worse.  For anyone who's been using a computer for more than three years, a hard disk crash is a real concern.  You never know when it will happen.

 And the only way to protect data is to have a data backup program.  Protecting data in this manner helps keep peace of mind.  Data backup is as necessary as a hard disk crash is inevitable.  And nowadays, most data recovery programs are easy to use, and can backup data on a regular schedule.

 Best of all, data backup programs are easy to use in data recovery after a hard disk crash.  Most data backup programs also have options to backup the hard disk, the partition or specific folders.

 There are some things to remember for a worry free data backup.

 A backup program is useless if it is not used correctly and regularly.  Most backup programs allow the user to create bootable recovery disks.  This is very useful when the system disk crashes and there's no way to boot up the computer.

 Backup to a second disk.  Or a second computer, if possible.  When a hard disk crashes the whole disk may not be accessible.  A disk backup stored on a separate partition on the same disk may not be accessible in case of a hard disk crash.

 Close all programs before the backup, including email clients, like Outlook or Thunderbird.  The files used by open programs might not be accessible to the backup program and would not be included in the process.

 Separately, backup your important files to DVDs.  And store these in a secure location away from your computer.  This is a necessary redundancy to ensure that your important files are secure.  There are worse risks to data than just a hard disk crash, a fire, for instance.
