I really bought this on sale to pull the drive out and use it in my computer. I finished up liking the case itself so much I place another drive in it and use it all the time.
My only complaint is that the activity/power light is REALLY bright, which seems to be more and more common on externals now. I fixed that by sticking a piece of black electrical tape over it and leaving a sliver at the top so I can still see activity without being blinded.
The drive stays cool by spiraling down when idle and is fan-less, but the case is aluminum for heat dissipation. |
It isn't crash-proof, it is an exceptional hard drive!

| I have been using outdoor drives for years and I have had drives fail from all the huge names. I am sure this one will fail ultimately too. I no longer expect a hard drive to last forever. Having such expectations will only bring you anguish when the drive gives up the ghost and you lose precious data. No matter the brand of hard drive, you *must* back up your data. AcomData drives are silent, small, quick, simple (no bells and whistles), inexpensive and solidly built. I have had my AcomData 1 TB drive for about 6 months. This drive has more than exceeded my expectations and I will most certainly be buying more. |
Exceptional Buy!

| I've used this for several months in succession processes that has kept it photocopying/writing files for over 8 hours at a time. I've place this owing to a serious workout and it has worked impeccably. I'm taking into account getting another one. |
Perfect for my needs.

I researched hard drives for about 2 months before I bought this one. I'll be honest, I bought it based on the reviews. My worry was that I would get what I paid for, that it would be made of inexpensive notes and just feel "cheapy." Nothing could be additional from the truth. I don't know why this drive is less expensive than the others, I'm sure there's some technologic reason, but it suits my needs impeccably.
I use it for backing up cinema, home movies, documents, etc and it works impeccably for that function. As the other reviewers have mentioned, if you have massive amounts of data to transfer, it will run hot due to the fact that is has no fan. The upside is that it's dead silent. You can hear it power up, but after that it's categorically silent.
It also feels solid and is heavy. This helps me know that it's not going to break easily or fall apart on me. It's also visually appealing. And last but not least, it's very compact for a 1TB drive. It's unevenly the size of a 5x7 picture and about an inch thick. How can you go incorrect with that? Judge the other reviewers, this is a very excellent, inexpensive hard drive. |
Just the thing for backups

| I own a MacBook and needed an outdoor backup. The AcomData 1 TB 3.5 inch drive was just the thing. Works without a hitch using TimeMachine, the Mac backup curriculum, looks fantastic and the small size of the outdoor drive's enclosed space unclutters my desk, while still as long as a lot of storage. I've had the drive about a month and use it not only every day, but every hour! A very nice addition to perfect my computer needs and at an even nicer price. |
